Harvest Fest, Ganggangsullae, Hanbok Harvest Fest is a time when family members from near and far come together to share food and stories and to give thanks to their ancestors for the abundant harvest. Chuseok is usually held on the 15th day of 8th month on the Lunar calendar and is enjoyed by both North and South Koreans. One activity women sometimes take part in on the day is folk play, 강강술래. Ganggangsullae is an ancient Korean dance that was first used to bring about a bountiful harvest and has developed into a cultural symbol for Korea. It incorporates singing, dancing, and playing and is exclusively performed by women. The dance is mostly performed in the southwestern coastal province of Jeollanam-do. Another tradition is to wear a Hanbok at Harvest Fest. A hanbok or Chosŏn-ot is a traditional Korean dress for semi-formal or formal attire during traditional occasions such as festivals, celebrations, and ceremonies. It is characterized by vibrant colours and simple lines without pockets. At Harvest Fest 2020, you can see a special performance of this beautiful dance by the (Korean national Guk Ak Centre), and you can also see a Hanbok Fashion Show, and learn about the correct way to put on a Hanbok.
