This video demonstrates how to be successful at indoor composting using an electric composter. The top tips to be successful are to balance the carbon to nitrogen ratio by adding a carbon source such as sawdust or wood shavings, coconut coir, or shredded cardboard or paper with your kitchen food scraps which are primarily nitrogen sources. It is also important to get the water content correct. If the mix is too dry, the composter will create a fine dust which can clog up the carbon air filter of the composter. It's a good idea to check the moisture content partway through and then add water if it is too dry. For my household, a 4 liter capacity composter is about right, producing an average of 1 quart per day at a cost between $0.18 and $0.21/quart. This is significantly less expensive than buying bagged compost. It is important to note that the composter does not really produce finished compost. I mix 50% previously finished compost with 50% unfinished compost and age it in stainless steel compost bins for about a week to properly finish it.
