Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot said Thursday that giving a job to a family member of the Dalit student who died last month is now being fast-tracked. In addition to the Chief Minister's Relief Fund, the All India Congress Committee will provide financial help of Rs. 20 lakh (AICC). His comments on Thursday came amid huge criticism over the death, including from his own party colleagues. The state government had promised 5 lakh to the family. He also assured a speedy investigation and severe punishment for the accused. Meanwhile, the Aam Aadmi Party protested in front of the Congress Headquarters. As protestors chanted and caused disruption, a large police force was deployed and some party workers were detained. On July 20, a teacher in Jalore, Rajasthan, thrashed a 9-year-old Dalit boy for touching a water pot. He died at an Ahmedabad hospital on August 13.
