A guest lecture on "Surgical Futures and Artificial Intelligence" was held today at DMC&H for faculty members and medical students. The lecture explored the transformative impact of Artificial Intelligence (AI) on the future of surgical practices and healthcare delivery. The distinguished speaker, Dr Inderbir Singh Gill, Ex alumni of DMC&H, Professor and Chairman Catherine and Joseph Aresty, Department of Urology, Executive Director, USC Institute of Urology, Shirley and Donald Skinner Chair in Urologic cancer surgery, Keck School of Medicine, renowned urologist and robotic surgeon , who is one of the pioneers of minimally invasive surgery delivered an insightful presentation on how artificial intelligence is revolutionizing the field of surgery. In his lecture Dr Inderbir Singh highlighted that how AI is offering improvements in diagnosis, treatment, patient care, and operational efficiency. With the use of AI algorithms we can analyze X-rays, MRIs, CT scans and other imaging results to detect abnormalities, such as tumors or fractures, with high accuracy. AI systems also helps to examine cancerous cells or other diseases more quickly and accurately than traditional methods. The integration of AI with robotic surgery systems, enhancing surgical precision and enabling surgeons to perform complex operations with greater ability and control highlighted, Dr Singh Further, Dr. Singh explained that AI can streamline the delivery of medical services in OPD areas also saving time and effectively managing patient flow to reduce waiting times.
