LC71 - stock with Kumho at52 285 75 r16 tires LC76: BF Goodrich 285 75 r16 tires King 2.5 adjustable shocks Rear Shackles Dobbinson Steering Stabilizer 2 inch lift Baja Design fog lights Took the LC71 out for a spin in the sand. My car is stock, VXR spec from Al Futtaim dealership in the UAE. I only have new boots fitted from the kumho at52 range. Power Very satisfied with the power delivery of the stock engine. It does require a little more juice purely for increasing the adrenaline rush but the power is more than enough to get you anywhere comfortably. Now I do get annoyed with the engine cutoff when you hit the rev limiter. The manufacturers tend to not design these cars for sand and dune bashing so the gear cutoff always has a little bog and lag in shift once you hit the limiter for boring safety reasons and to make sure the car lasts a billion miles before breaking down. If you drive in sand you will understand how this becomes an annoying feature because you cannot afford cutting off power in situations when you are climbing a dune and if your car has reached its power limit then you will kill the power if you upshift. Now the good news is that once tuners have access to play with the engine and gear tunes then you can make the car react the way you want without compromising the situation. PS - i’ve had much worse cars with gear tune and engine cutoff from stock so this isn't the worst and I cant think of any car out of the factory that doesn't need a tune to fix engine cutoff reaction. I must say, although the cars isn’t pushing major hp (less than 200 whp), the power delivery and feel is great and does not make you feel like you are in an underpowered car at any point. Because the gear ratio is for HD vehicle range and set for towing, it makes the car always feel very alive and exited at low speeds. A TRD/Magnusson supercharger will probably make its way to engine sometime in the near future but this is purely a personal preference of pushing most power out of cars. Control Lives to raise the JDM flag high. Both on road and offroad. It feels like the famous “Haichi Roku” for offroad. Steering is very direct and connected. This plays a big role when driving offroad. Given the wheels are spinning almost all the time, a directly connected steering to the ground is essential for giving you best control. The car does not give you funny surprises when doing stuff like counter steering because you know exactly where the wheels are pointed and how to change their direction all the time. This makes the car extremely fun and controllable for drifting. On 2wheel mode - rear wheel spin is nicely locked together giving great control and driving experience when fooling around in 2wheel mode. The 4x4 system is probably one of the best out there. Just engages without fuss and gives you proper mechanical 4x4 system. I havent had a chance to test the diff lock system properly because the car probably doesnt need it. Having an swb 4x4 car with front and rear difflocks basically means its built to never get stuck out wild. I also love how they kept the 4x4 system with a classic mechanical gear for engagement rather than a button to click. Out of experience, electric buttons to engage 4x4 tend to be unreliable sometimes especially as cars get older. ABS interference is minimal when you switch off traction etc completely but I would still prefer a complete ABS kill switch. Brakes are genuinely good onroad and offroad for a car of this type. Shock Well there aren't any to start with I think… the car is essentially an HD pick-up towing truck that has been converted to a short-wheel-base offroad coupe machine. They haven’t bothered to replace the springs and shocks to something more built for the car. So you get exactly what you get on the normal truck version - maybe a few less leaf springs. Now having said all that, it wasn’t as bad as I anticipated. On the stiff end of the spectrum but maybe the chunky Kumho’s helped with easing of the ride quality and gave you the comfort you needed. Besides driving it like a Dakar rally competitor? You can pretty much survive with what the car comes with. This version comes with 5 leaf springs and I’ve seen versions come with only 2 in other regions. So logic says, you can simply delete a few leafs and stick nicely absorbing shocks and the car would become a different animal…Time to test this theory! #landcruiser #toyotacar #pov @TOYOTAGAZOORacingJPchannel @ToyotaUAEaccount @kumhotireglobal
