What exactly is Tujia brocade? It is an extremely ancient folk handwoven brocade technique, characterized by vibrant colors and often decorated with geometric patterns. In the Tujia language, it is commonly referred to as "Xilan Kapu" or "Silan Kapu," indicating colorful fabric. The production technique involves the characteristics of "through the warp, break with the weft, and pick the flower on the reverse side." In ancient times, Xilan Kapu was already highly precious. During the Tang and Song dynasties, it was said a piece of fabric could be exchanged for a human life, illustrating the high value of Tujia fabric at that time.
