Recorded on 15 November 2017 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE READ MORE TO FIND OUT INFORMATION OF THE ACCIDENT Kawasaki Heavy Industries/CRRC Qingdao Sifang C151A 535/536 and 547/548, were involved in train accident at Joo Koon today. The accident resulted 28 injuries from both trains and caused the East West Line to run with delays. The video shows the aftermath of the incident. 547/548 rear-ended 535/536. These 2 trains has been subsequently removed and towed back to Tuas West Depot. There was a press conference stating that 535/536 left Ulu Pandan Depot with software protection feature, but it was inadvertently removed when it passed a faulty signalling circuit. When 535/536 arrived at Joo Koon, the signalling system treat the train as a 3-car train, giving the back train 547/548, to even close up the remaining gaps of the 3-car (6-car) train, which then led to this accident. That’s where LTA & SMRT blamed the CBTC System for causing all these problems. This is the first time Thales had their signalling system, led to train accidents. As the internal investigation works on the CBTC system has concluded, the CBTC system is deemed safe. Thus, East West Line train service into Tuas West Extension, suspended fully since Thursday and it is to last until this Sunday. From Monday, East West Line will run in 2 sections and serve [Pasir Ris - Joo Koon] and [Gul Circle - Tuas Link]. Free Shuttle Bus will run [Joo Koon - Gul Circle]. Just because of this incident, train service on the North South Line was forced to be reduced. This is due to safety reasons. Thus, train service in the North South Line frequency has been reduced to 2-3 mins/train for Peak and 6 mins/train for Off-Peak. Weekend possibly be 6 mins/train.
