40 years on since 55009 and 55019 were handed over to the Deltic Preservation Society, the pair would come together to celebrate the anniversary with a special 'Deltic Day' at the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Steam Railway. Having been formed 5 years earlier in 1977, the DPS became the proud owners of two Class 55's in 1982, when 55009 "Alycidon" and 55019 "Royal Highland Fusilier" were officially handed over at a ceremony at Doncaster Works on the 20th of August. As such, the pair pipped 55022 to become the first members of the class bought for preservation. The pair were hastily moved to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, and in the four decades following have made their presence known at a wide array of heritage railways, with the sound of their distinctive Napier engines. The society itself has gone from strength to strength, bolstering its fleet with a third 'Deltic' in 1986 in the shape of 55015 "Tulyar", and the cab of 55008. The event at the GWSR marked the first time in 5 years that 55009 and 55019 have run together, with their previous meeting taking place at the Bluebell Railway in 2017, for the 'Deltic Preservation Society 40th Anniversary' gala. At the GWSR, the pair were in charge of a two train timetable, with an additional evening service. This final run saw the duo double-heading through the Cotswolds, with a return trip out of Toddington, bathed in the evening light.
