Zonos-v0.1 is an open-weight 1.65 billion parameter text-to-speech model trained on more than 200,000 hours of varied multilingual speech. We put both Zonos and ElevenLabs to the test to see which text-to-speech model was better. Zonos claims to provide instant voice cloning, but when we tried it, it took more than two minutes to clone a voice. ElevenLabs, on the other hand, took several hours to clone a voice professionally, but the result was significantly more accurate than the Zonos clone. ElevenLabs started to struggle when we gave it the same amount of training audio as Zonos though: 120 seconds. Zonos also seemed to struggle with this small amount of audio, creating a clone that didn't sound much like the original. As a free TTS model, Zonos is a solid choice if you're looking to quickly create a voice clone for testing purposes or for fun. However, for a more realistic voice clone, training on such a small amount of audio is tough, meaning that paid TTS services like ElevenLabs may be a preferable choice.
