VO Oudomxay radio, television transmitters officially opens INTRO: New radio and television transmission stations built in Xay district, Oudomxay province, and funded by the government of Vietnam, officially began transmitting on Wednesday. STORY: The opening ceremony was attended by Laos' Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Savankhone Razmountry; Oudomxay pro vincial Governor, Mr Phetsakhone Luang-aphay; Director General of the Mass Media Department of Laos' Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Pinprathana Phanthamaly; Director General of Lao National Television, Mr Bounchao Phichit; Director General of Lao National Radio, Mr Phosy Keomanivong; and Director General o f Vietnam Television, Mr Tran Binh Minh, and other officials. According to Deputy Minister of Information, Culture and Tourism, Mr Savankhone Razmountry, these stations will be an important contribution to additional broadcasting space in the northern region. They will broadcast all Lao National Radio and Television programmes from the six central channels, one channel in Oudomxay and two channels from Vietnam Television Oudomxay provincial Governor Mr Phetsakhone also thanked the government of Vietnam for their generous assistance, saying this project will also enable the dissemination of Party policy, regulations of the State, information and entertainment to people in the northern provinces, especially Oudomxay Construction of the facilities cost more than 38.7 billion kip (107.9 billion Vietnamese dong), funded by grant assistance from Vietnam. Work on the project began in January 2014 and ended last month. This latest project is in line with an agreement made at a meeting held a few years ago between the Lao-Vietnamese Cooperation Commission and other officials from the two countries. The project was implemented by Vietnam Television and the Mass Media Department of Laos' Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism. The Vietnam government also provided an office, staff housing and other facilities. The power capacity of the FM radio station is 20kW while that of the television station is 10kW. The stations will be used to transmit useful information to local communities. The new facility in Oudomxay is one of several radio and television stations across the country built with funding support from the Vietnamese government, including two others in Champassak and Luang Prabang.
