The gateway town to the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park, Aix is bordered by Lac du Bourget, the largest natural glacial lake in France. It is the second most populous city in the Savoie department, with over 30,000 inhabitants. Thanks to its thermal baths, Aix-les-Bains was a major holiday destination for princely and wealthy families during the Belle Époque. Today, the Aix-les-Bains thermal baths still exist, but the town is also known for the Musilac festival, its rink hockey team and the Aix Auto Légende classic car rally. Aix-les-Bains is located in south-east France, in the Rhône-Alpes-Auvergne region, 1 hour's drive from Geneva and Switzerland.
