In this episode of The Creative Return — where being human is the art, I read Chapter Three from my book Finding My Bones. I open by honoring the elements and directions, a simple ritual I use to call myself fully into presence—especially when life has me crossing continents, holding big feelings, and moving through nervous system overwhelm. It’s not so much jet lag as it is learning how to arrive where I am, exactly as I am. I speak about creative practice as something we return to again and again, not only when we feel inspired, but especially when we feel anxious, scattered, or tender. I share how I call myself back into the creative process even when my system feels depleted or overstimulated. At the end, I offer three simple practices I use to calm my nervous system and reorient myself toward steadiness and presence. As Michael Meade says, “practice makes practice.” Myth, ritual, and repetition are part of how we remember who we are and how we stay in relationship with our creative life. Thank you to everyone who tunes in, listens, and walks this creative return with me.
