Welcome back to STREET WOK! Today, we’re taking you on an unforgettable food tour through the legendary Xiaonanmen Morning Market in Xi’an, China. Located right under the historic Ancient City Wall, this market is the heartbeat of the city’s breakfast scene. Join us as we hunt down the real taste of the ancient capital! From the famous "Chinese Hamburger" to sizzling noodles and sweet desserts, we’re trying it all. Here’s everything we ate on this incredible street food adventure: 🍔 ROUIAMO (Chinese Hamburger) We start with Xi’an’s most iconic snack. Watch as the bread is pan-fried and baked to perfect crispiness, then stuffed with tender, slow-cooked pork and a variety of fresh veggies. Locals say, "pretty much anything can go in a burger!" 🍜 JELLY NOODLES Made from mung bean starch and tossed on a hot iron plate with chili, garlic, and spices. Sizzling, aromatic, and a true classic. 🥟 CHIVE BOX (韭菜盒子) A traditional northern Chinese snack. Thin dough is stuffed with fresh fennel and vermicelli, folded, and fried until golden. Cutting it open releases an irresistible aroma! 🍚 ZENGGAO (Steamed Rice Cake) A layered masterpiece of glutinous rice, red dates, and mung beans, topped with thick date paste. You have to scoop from top to bottom to get all the layers in one bite! 🥩 BEEF PANCAKES (Youhuxuan) Named after a Central Asian dance from the Silk Road, this spiral-shaped pastry is twisted with oil and beef, then fried until ultra-crispy and golden. 🍡 ROLLING DONKEY (Lvdagunr) A traditional dessert named for how it’s rolled in yellow soybean flour, like a donkey rolling in dust. Soft and sticky rice cake filled with sweet red bean paste and peanuts. 🥣 TOFU PUDDING & HU LA TANG We warm up with silky tofu pudding topped with scallions and chili, and a thick, peppery "Hu La Tang" soup loaded with tofu, veggies, and meatballs. 🥟 PAN-FRIED BUNS Crispy on the bottom, juicy on the inside—the perfect companion to a hot bowl of soup. 🥨 MAHUA & FRESH WALNUTS We finish with crispy fried dough twists and a seasonal treat: fresh walnuts with a soft shell and creamy, slightly sweet flavor. The Xiaonanmen market is buzzing with energy, and you can even see vendors livestreaming while they cook! It’s a true taste of local life in Xi’an.
