I picked up a whole load of grapes from my friend Colin’s backyard. Theres a ton of things I can do with these grapes, snacking definitely comes to mind, but I thought I’d make a video on something I’ve been doing for the last few years which is making my annual batch of wine. Today we are gonna go over the absolute basics behind wine, and go over some common mistakes and misconceptions that might mess up a batch. But first, heres a disclaimer. This episode discusses the production of wine, an alcoholic beverage. If this topic isn’t for you, I have plenty of other videos that you might enjoy. Please note, this video is intended for educational and entertainment purposes only. I do not endorse or condone the making of alcohol at home. Basic white wine: Components used: Grapes yeast(champagne) large container for crushing large glass container for fermentation large glass container with a narrow neck for aging vinyl tubing 1. Clean, sort, and crush grapes being sure to pick out stems, leaves, spiders, and shriveled berries. 2. If macerating, allow the juice to stay in contact with skin for at least a day. If not, just drain the juice from the skins via cheesecloth into a fermentation vessel. (I usually measure the brix content of the unfermented juice via hydrometer if I want to see how much alcohol we produce later on) 3. add yeast and ferment until no more bubbles are forming 4. once fermentation is more or less complete, transfer to a vessel with a narrow neck, and fill all the way to the top 5. allow to age until it tastes nice(easily 1-3 months for white wine, hard to say). 6... I will be bottling in part 2 Tips: -look for fruit that is very sweet, ripe, and high quality -make sure each vessel used is well cleaned if not completely sanitized -winemaking yeast is preferred as baker's yeast strains might not be able to achieve very high alcohol levels in the final product.
