In this metal detecting episode I will find a beautiful, old item made of solid gold. The decision to hunt this place came to me, when I got out of the train. I was on my way to a spot located at the opposite direction, when suddenly something told me to switch plans. I questioned my weird decision at the beginning and was even angry at myself for a while. I already detected parts of this spot two years ago, but back then I just walked through (sideways) with the big 11" coil and a different destination point in mind. I knew that this spot had still some potential, but I didn't come back, until now... The area was already hunted by other people, before I got there and after. The obvious signs (holes, iron targets on top) were everywhere. My psychic powers were strong that day. I can feel, when a hunt is going to be "good". In this case something leads me from one target to another. The metal detecting Gods had a nice combination of finds for me this time. A lead seal started it, soon came the stunning gold find. I thought about 19th century jewelry at first, but when I saw the details, I realized that it must be much older. How old? I'm not an expert, but it "looks" "at least" medieval (to my untrained eye)... Maybe even older - Roman? The gem is missing at one side. Theoretically I could have taken a bag of soil from the bottom/sides of the hole and try to find it at home. My limited experience (I tried this "technique" several times in the past) taught me, that it's pointless. Until now I was't able to find a missing gem of a bigger size (from rings, or other items). I guess, if the gem is separated later after the drop, there are still many factors that can influence the position of both items (like roots, boars, worms, moles, humans - and a combination of all during a few hundred or thousands of years). The Roman coin - I saw the tree and had to go there. A signal appeared right underneath. I think, it was overlooked because of the "difficulty" to get there. Sometimes a little bit of "extra work" pays of. It was a great hunt (not because of the finds, but because it felt fluent and "just right"). I hope you had a little bit of fun. Thanks for watching.
