This is probably the easiest of the 3 yard quilts as far as cutting, but takes the longest to sew. The result is so cool because blocks look like they are floating. I don't think I would be able to tell if I had placed something wrong and that works well for me. Let me walk you through the steps to creating the Illusion quilt pattern from Modern Views 3 Yard Quilts book. This is a great quilt for showcasing a fabric you like and you use that fabric for fabric 1. I think using a solid or small print for fabric 2 and a solid for fabric 3 are a good options for getting the blocks to look like they are floating. Because the blocks are surrounded by the same fabric, you could use a directional fabric easily. You just turn the block the way you need to get your fabric facing the right way.
