Iran, october 2019. We were traveling for some weeks without any clear purpose of recording music, but some magical encounters opened doors towards the sounds of ancient Persia. We met 'Les Filles de Shiraz' through Sara, while traveling in Yazd. She mentioned her life as a female musician in Iran, the difficulties coming with it (impossibility to perform as a solo female musician in public, etc...) and we decided to meet a few days later in her hometown - this time accompanied by 3 other wonderful ladies musicians. We gathered at the atelier of artist Adel Yazdi, and we documented what seemed impossible - the extreme beauty of Iranian culture through the only voices & instruments of its women. This short film is part of a collection of 10 music recordings from Iran. Images & edit by Vincent Moon, sounds by Priscilla Telmon. With Mozdeh Babaei, Sanaz Namdari, Sara Eghbalpour and Shima Shirazi. An independent production company created by french artists Priscilla Telmon and Vincent Moon, Collection Petites Planètes' aim is to explore the boundaries between cinema, music, and expanded forms of modern rituals. Our vision moves between the realms of documentary creation, ethnographic research, and filmic experimentation. Our entire work is shared under a Creative Commons license, making it available to everybody, acknowledging the fact that we are only bridges between spiritual and material realities and that we are in no way creating from scratch.
