Filmed over 30 years ago, this video preserves the extraordinary collection of Continental Organs at the now famously recognised Dutch Open Air Museum. The Museum in Arnhem uses authentic buildings, objects and true stories to capture the history of everyday life. Come with us on a journey through time – from two hundred years ago to the recent past. There’s so much to see and do! You’ll meet the museum staff, who appear to have stepped straight out of the past. Proud of their heritage, they will inspire you with their stories and will be curious to hear your story too. The Dutch Open Air Museum was established more than a century ago on part of the Waterberg estate. In 1726 Adriaan Menthen, the then Mayor of Arnhem, acquired this area. The Menthen family built their own little paradise here. In 1825 it came into the possession of Hendrik Jacob Carel Jan Baron Van Heeckeren van Enghuizen, who also owned Arnhem’s Sonsbeek estate. At that time the Waterberg estate covered an area of more than 65 hectares and included a manor house and coach house, a farmhouse with outbuildings, fields and meadows, on which orchards stood, and more than 15,000 beech and pine trees. #continentalorgans #netherlands
