These scrapers belong to what archaeologists classify as the lithic assemblage of early hunter-gatherer societies in the Ararat Valley. Dr. Simonyan noted that the scrapers discovered at this Yerevan site seem specifically adapted for processing the thick hides of the megafauna of that era. Given that woolly mammoths, giant bison, and other large Ice Age animals inhabited that region at the time, the tools were almost certainly used on those species. He expressed astonishment that such a site was nearly destroyed by construction before being properly examined.
