Before Greater Latrobe High School football players play on Friday nights, many played midget football. The Greater Latrobe Area Midget Football Association (GLAMFA), is part of the Big East Youth Football League. Children from the ages seven to twelve can participate. GLAMFA sponsors three teams, in three age brackets. Children begin playing flag football (ages 7-8), then move to the junior team (ages 9-10). The last two years are spent, on the developmental team (ages 11-12). Each age bracket has a weight limit. Players under eight, can not exceed 115 pounds. 135 pounds, is the limit, for the under ten division. The developmental team has a weight limit, of 155 pounds. During these six years, players learn fundamentals, of football. Each week, they have one practice and games on Sunday. Latrobe plays their home games at Rossi Field, located on the high school campus. The eight-game regular season begins in August and ends in October. The top four teams advance to the Big East Youth Football League Championship Series. The Latrobe developmental team finished 2-6 and missed the playoffs. Because of GLAMFA, youth football players can play the game they love. These games also prepare them to play under the lights, on Friday night, at Latrobe Memorial Stadium.
