🧠 When neither fighting nor fleeing is an option, the body can enter a freeze response. This is a survival mechanism where the body essentially 'shuts down' to minimize harm. During this state, muscle tension increases, creating a kind of body armor to protect vital organs. The psoas muscle plays a central role by pulling the legs toward the abdomen and curling the spine forward — a fetal-like posture that shields the body using the ribcage, pelvis, and limbs. While this response is protective in the short term, chronic activation of the psoas — especially after trauma — can lead to forward-leaning posture, low back pain, and a feeling of being physically or emotionally stuck. It may also contribute to anxiety, hypervigilance, and altered breathing patterns. 👉 Gentle, mindful movement can help create safety and restore mobility — but it starts with understanding what your body is protecting. #psoas #psoasmuscle #nervoussystem #traumaresponse #freeze #polyvagaltheory #somatichealing #anatomyexplained #movementeducation #bodyawareness #stressresponse #emotionalregulation #traumainformed #posturecorrection #anxietysupport #mindbodyconnection 📽️ Animation: © Anatomy Lab – All rights reserved.
