The Magnificent Dreyfuss Hudson

Several of New York Central’s latest thoroughbred Hudson type 4-6-4 steam locomotives received a sheet metal make over beginning in 1938. NYC commissioned Henry Dreyfuss, a highly respected and successful industrial engineer of the time, to develop a design that would become an icon for the pinnacle of passenger rail transportation in the 20th Century in America. As a result, these locomotives have since simply been referred to as ‘Dreyfuss Hudsons’. NYC’s J-3a Hudson locomotive #5445 was the first to receive this update. MTH has produced several model variations of the 5445, one of which is used in this video. This 3-rail O Gauge locomotive model is equipped with PS-2 sounds and digital command control. It is pulling a consist of NYC smooth-sided passenger cars decorated for this locomotive and the 20th Century Limited, also by MTH.
