I'm helping the Cubberla-Witton Catchments Network collect toads for The Cane Toad Challenge. Professor Capon, his team at University of Queensland, in partnership with 'SpringStar', are making Cane Toad Tadpole Baits. The toads we collect are destined for this process. Thank-you to BCC's Community Conservation Partnerships Program and Cath, Adam, Fleur and Emma for coming along and for making this a successful evening. There are now 1.5 billion Cane Toads in Australia since their introduction in 1935. From tadpole to adult, the Cane Toad is poisonous to almost all Australian native species. We want to eliminate these pests. I think the idea of using the Cane Toad's own pheromones to attract Cane Toad tadpoles is brilliant! Well done Professor Capon! Please visit their website for more information https://imb.uq.edu.au/canetoadchallenge GET INVOLVED! It's a great idea to join a catchment group if you are interested in your local waterways, the environment and biodiversity. There's such a wealth of knowledge and so much you can learn about what's going on locally. If you live around Kenmore, I highly recommend Cubberla-Witton Catchments Network! Many catchment groups has signs at their local creeks or find your local group online.
