But, is it any good for tracking your workouts and health, that’s what we’ll test systematically and scientifically in this video. But first, let’s go over the most important background information on this new Garmin watch. The Instinct 3 is very much an adventure watch, and built in the rugged spirit of the Instinct series, but with some nice upgrades. The most important here is the newly introduced AMOLED option, but you can still get the traditional MIP Solar model if you value battery life. I personally prefer the AMOLED version, which has a much more vivid, colorful screen that offers a much more pleasant viewing experience. If you go Solar, you’re getting the classic monochrome memory-in-pixel display—now featuring increased contrast—and you benefit from solar charging, which extends battery life. In terms of screen sizes, the AMOLED editions come in 45mm with a 1.2-inch display and 50mm with a 1.3-inch display. The MIP Solar models match those same two case sizes, although their displays measure slightly smaller: 0.9 inches for 45mm and 1.1 inches for 50mm. Another design highlight on the Instinct 3 series is the inclusion of a metal ring reinforcement in the bezel, which should help protect the watch. Lets first briefly compare Instinct 3 to the Instinct 2 lineup, where the new Instinct 3 has a few new features and improvements, some that were previously only found in the more expensive versions. First off, solar power in the MIP version has been boosted to capture up to five times more energy than Instinct 2 Solar models. That’s very welcome of course. But my favorite new feature is actually the added LED Flashlight. Both the 45mm and 50mm now feature a built-in flashlight, which has both a white LED at 4 levels of brightness, and a red LED at a single brightness. All Instinct 3 variants come with dual-frequency GNSS, plus Garmin’s SatIQ feature that automatically manages GPS mode for optimum accuracy and battery life. All models also have advanced Fitness Metrics. Which include Training Load Focus, Training Load Ratio, Nap Detection, Sleep Coach, and more. Strength Workout Animations and Muscle Map are exclusive to the AMOLED models. Garmin Pay is now also available on All Units, this contactless payment system is now standard across the Instinct 3 lineup. What about the price? The cheapest in the 45mm solar version at $399, and the larger 50mm model is 50 bucks more expensive at $449.
