Sharing & embedding are welcome!! ‪@ChappellRoan‬ Visions of Damsels & Other Dangerous Things VIP Barricade POV 4KHD VERSIONS OF THE SETLIST HERE    • Chappell Roan Live in LA (Barricade) 10-11...   --- Honest Review: ok! backstory. i love sad songs so when the subway bridge “she got away” was in almost every tiktok on my fyp a few months ago, i listened to that song and that song alone for weeks. then one time, i came across an ad to sign up for her pop-up show in pasadena and i was surprised to win the raffle! lol so now we’re here! i hadn’t listened, watched or followed anything of chappell before this concert except “the subway” but i became aware of her instantly growing fanbase bcoz of lolla 2024. i flew in and attended days 2 and 3 and while i was at the airport i saw news about her set on day 1. there was a rumor that her set would be so big they moved her to a bigger stage which in hindsight, was a great call. a lot of people passed out and couldn’t get out even after an hour bcoz there were just so many people. she’s now the biggest daytime artist in lolla. anyway, i posted this a few days ago in my maroon 5 concert review- that i usually prefer male artists in the west pop genre because they’re less likely to do cursive or unnatural-type singing. and i’m probably going to get in trouble here but this is an honest review from my experience and research. i usually stay away from certain type of artists who attract a certain type of fanbase. 🤐 after this concert i realized several things but i’ll discuss 3 since characters are limited lol. first off, i was right that her early stuff didn’t catch on right away bcoz like most new artists her company applied this formula that might have worked for others before- the type of singing, image, overall marketing. but then she got dropped and got a new start. only listened to her full album after the concert and there are some songs where it feels like she’s using the singing style of already-established artists. if i think really hard about when she first showed up on my fyp (yes, i’m always online and mostly on tiktok lol), it was when she leaned into the drag themes for her new branding. i don’t really like that choice for a lot of reasons (which i won’t get into bcoz i don’t want this page to be all political). i also noticed that as she’s getting better traction, she or her team are slowly shifting away from the drag-loud looks like the makeup- and more into a mystical, medieval style which i think fits her better. it’s like gaga or any marketing strategy: go loud and wild to make noise then tone it down once people notice you. second, one thing she’s doing that a lot of new artists are also doing now is setting boundaries- which should be the default but it’s also become kind of a trend. people go for that blunt, dgaf persona. even in kpop (which used to be so conservative), everyone’s doing it now online. the nonchalant marketing vibe is everywhere and honestly, it’s starting to feel overdone. point is, she’s part of that dgaf, nonchalant type of branding that’s trending right now. lastly, the reason people love going to her shows is because she has festival-type songs meaning, she’s got those monologue-style tracks where fans can shout the lyrics back at her. she also has choreography that engage the crowd. plus the synth/older sound- all these things that worked in older music festivals before, they incorporated. so unlike modern artists where you just stand and sing your fave song, she makes sure you’re actually part of the moment. and that’s really the whole point of live shows anyway- to have fun and touch grass. but! no matter how much they switch up the outfits, songs or concepts, none of this would work if she's not skilled. she is very talented & very much shown on her live performances. when i was driving home after the concert, i tried singing some of her songs and they were too high or switched up rhythm that i couldn’t keep up. and she sings in tune while jumping!? you can tell she’s still figuring some things out but she’s clearly involved & cares about making quality art. she’s def going to get bigger and better bcoz she's talented, knows what works and goes for it! def a great concert. met kind people at the line entrance & barricade- made the waiting bearable & were thoughtful enough to let me record nicely. btw, as someone who’s been to several concerts, this was the best ticketing experience i’ve ever had. it was stress-free, smooth, no dynamic pricing and was reasonably priced. everything turned out better than expected. moral of the story: ads work sometimes. they know what you want lol! such an amazing experience! :) --- Hi I’m Bea!
