Wideshot crowd cheering STORYLINE: As part of the fight against the underground trade in pirated video and music cassettes, Moscow International Film Festival organisers staged a concert in the city's Gorky Park, encouraging people to trade in counterfeit discs for new legal recordings. Millions of dollars each year go to illegal video and music recordings in Russia, which are cheaper and more accessible than their licensed counterparts. Music and video industry officials have been hard-pressed to fight a hangover from Soviet times - when videos and cassettes were smuggled in from the West, dubbed with translation and distributed from underground recording houses. Russian consumers are playing their part as well, by demanding better quality recordings. With the improved economy, some consumers have the buying power to choose quality over the lower price of pirated recordings.
