Panagiotis Stoupas was a Greek army reserve Major who served in the Security Batallions. He fought in the Asia Minor campaign and in the Greco-Italian war. During the Axis occupation of Greece and the communist attacks on non-communists he joined the Security Batallions and became the head of the Security Batallions in Messinia. He took his own life in the Pylos castle on September 24th 1944 so as not to fall captive to the communists knowing that they will humiliate him and torture him to death as they did to his corpse.
