Making do with available materials, I have built the northern terminus of the railway. The potting bench which forms the station loop's base has been sitting outside for about 30 years so, although wood is far from ideal, I reckon it will probably see me out. The loft ladder fell apart last week! In the spirit of 'waste not, want not' it and a bit of decking lead up (1 in 16) from the main line. This section can lift out to allow lawnmower access; it's the Hebridean reincarnation of Rasenmäher Überfahrt but possibly not the Haltepünkt bit. Krupp, Ivatt 2-6-2T did the honours of testing the set up. Its long wheelbase and light footedness (think Bulleid light pacific) make it ideal for sorting out where abrupt gradient changes may be a problem and its weight is good for testing the joints where I have used removable fishplates. Currently 3 different systems in use but by far the best is the Pico clamp. Stay tuned! I need to finish building up the sides and ballasting the south loop and Wharf branch. Which is technically phase 2...
