Today I’m inviting you to join me in a simple, fun mixed-media project that uses paint + doodling — and one of my favorite things: unconventional tools. We’ll create a “window grid” using tape, scrape three colors of paint across the sections, let it dry, and then doodle on top with fine-line pens and gel pens. It’s easy to do, very effective, and it creates a set of little panels that all look different — but still belong together. What I love most about this process is the freedom it gives you. When you use tools like scrapers or palette knives, the pressure to “make something amazing” softens… and your hands can lead. It becomes more intuitive — almost meditative — a way to rest the thinking brain and stay present. For doodling inspiration, I also share a book I like: Zen Doodling by Carolyn Crace (I may be mispronouncing the last name!). It’s full of mark-making ideas that can help you get started beyond “dots and dashes.” ✨ A few ideas for what you can do with these when you’re finished: cut them up and add them to a journal use them in an altered book keep them as a small framed piece keep doodling and layering as long as you want — you can’t do it wrong If you enjoyed this gentle creative session, I invite you to subscribe for more simple art processes, mixed media play, and intuitive mark-making.
