What if the Qur’an gives a “Ten Commandments” style roadmap—and it begins and ends with one message: don’t associate anything with Allah. Is shirk only statues… or can it be hidden in intention, obedience, and pride? In this episode of our Moral Standards (Surah Al-Isrā 17:22–39) series, we begin with the first and biggest commandment: Worship Allah alone. The Qur’an starts moral guidance by building a “boundary wall” around every good deed—Tawheed—and warns that when this foundation cracks, everything else becomes exposed. We explain what worship (‘ibādah) truly means: not only prayer and sujood, but also ultimate obedience and submission to Allah’s guidance. We also explore what the Qur’an says about shirk—including forms people often overlook—such as giving religious authority where it doesn’t belong, relying on created beings like they control the unseen, and even the danger of showing off in worship. In this video you’ll learn: Why Surah Al-Isrā begins and ends with Tawheed What “worship Allah alone” includes (actions + obedience) Qur’anic examples warning against different kinds of shirk A heart-check on intention: are we doing deeds for Allah or for people?
