Ideally we would have purchased a big heavier duty unit, but this was about all we could get quickly. We have been struggling to handle logs and scrap with the clamp on forks for the tractor, and actually bent them severely. This grapple will hopefully be a big upgrade! Right off, the unit doesn't appear dangerously weak, but also is clearly not heavy duty. The immediate observation and realization is that it does not open as wide as it should, which makes it very difficult to get a bit if you were handling a large pile. It is a grapple RAKE, which implies it's really designed for roots/brush handling, but you'd have a hard time grabbing much of a brush pile with it. My opinion, the grapple should open at least wide enough that the bottom and top tines are coplanar. I've been running the grapple for about 6 months now, and have wrestled some pretty big logs with it. No welds have broke, but the points on the grapple have all bent and folded over. Several pivot pins have fallen out. The cotter keys that hold them in get bent and fall out, so keep a few of those handy in the machine. Other than that, it's holding up OK so far, and I promise I'm not nice to it!
