And all rights for image and video material belong to us. PANAMA CITY We added Panama to our trip to Costa Rica for a few more days and are very happy to have visited both countries. Even if Panama is right next to Costa Rica, the two countries are completely different. On our drive from the airport we could already see the modern skyscrapers of the banking and business district from afar. We strolled along the promenade and enjoyed the wonderful weather and the fantastic view of the skyline and the Pacific Sea. On the way to the old town we visited the fish market Mercado de Mariscos. When we saw all the fresh fish and seafood, we got hungry and looked forward to a delicious lunch. The pelicans probably felt the same…. The old town of Casco Viejo with its beautiful buildings and colonial charm forms a total contrast to the modern business district. Inspired by the fish market, we enjoyed incredibly delicious seafood dishes in one of the many restaurants. We were discovering more of Panama and got a ticket for the famous Panama Canal Railway, which runs along the Panama Canal to the Caribbean coast. PORTOBELO From Colon we took the bus to the former City of the Spanish treasure fleets, Portobelo. The contrast to Panama City could not have been greater. Here in the small town of Portobelo with its Caribbean vibe, was a wonderful relaxation. And the remains of the old fortresses let us immerse ourselves in the time of pirate adventures. Celebrities like Christopher Columbus and the pirate Francis Drake and Henry Morgan have been here. We thought of the story of how Henry Morgan took Portobello, which was heavily fortified with cannons, via the unprotected land route and stole all the gold and silver from the city and almost burned Portobelo to the ground.
