Tabletop exercises (TTXs) and other scenario-driven trainings proved to be powerful tools for strengthening election preparedness. Using realistic scenarios—natural disasters, cyber incidents, and sudden shifts in operational capacity—participants tested emergency plans, practiced decision-making, and built stronger coordination with partners. On Thursday, September 25, at noon ET, The Elections Group hosted a discussion on the benefits of scenario-based training and practical steps for designing and running effective exercises. We shared lessons learned from recent implementations and highlighted resources that election officials can adapt for their own offices. Participants left with practical ideas from tabletop exercises and other scenario-driven trainings to incorporate into their preparedness activities—strengthening staff learning, improving coordination, and building lasting resilience.
