Hello everyone! This is an older video of my Bichirs and Rainbow Wolf feeding on Hikari Massivore Delite carnivore pellets. This used to be my go-to pellet for my large carnivores. I liked it because it was readily eaten by all the fish and had a high amount of protein as well was vitamins. The Bichirs, Wolf and Datnoid (not shown in this video for some reason) went crazy for this food. It smelled like meat too, which I’m sure was part of the appeal. One of the downsides I encountered with Hikari Massivore Delite was fairly rapid fragmentation which meant a mess at times when cleaning up. It also was a little big at 10mm size for some of my smaller Bichirs to swallow like “Pink”, my 9” male albino Senegal bichir. However, it was “gulp sized” for most of the bigger (12” to 17”) Bichirs including my Polypterus Bichir Bichir, Polypterus Lapradei ‘Faranah’ and ‘Koloton’, Polypterus Endlicheri ‘Black Volta’, Polypterus Ornatipinnis and Polypterus Weeksii. The 10” Rainbow Wolf Erythrinus erythrinus was also able to easily gobble the pellets. I have since switched to a less messy sinking carnivore pellet from YourFishStuff which my fish also relish and which I’ve found to be less messy! As you’ll notice in this Bichir aquarium, I use red garnet blasting sand and not gravel substrate for a couple of important reasons. One is that the red color seems to bring out Bichir patterns really well. The other, more important reason is that gravel can be swallowed while and cause gut impactions which can hurt or even kill your Bichirs. I also use pellets as a staple food as live feeder fish can carry diseases and parasites. If you really must use feeders, I recommend raising your own. I also try to vary my Bichirs’ diet by giving them other food such as earthworms, tilapia slivers, silversides, shrimp and krill. I’ll be posting an updated video soon about the Bichirs and other inhabitants of this aquarium. As always, please feel free to ask a question or leave a comment below! Thanks for watching and happy fishkeeping. #Polypterus #Massivore #Monster
