🌍 Chicago Travel Vlog: From a Real Fire to City Streets, Riverwalk & Jazz Night | Solo Travel USA I witnessed a real Chicago fire… then explored the city solo from protests and riverwalk views to an iconic jazz club. This is what solo travel in America really feels like. From the balcony of where I was staying, I saw smoke rising into the sky and fire trucks racing through the streets. Sirens everywhere. I went downstairs to see what was happening and witnessed my first Chicago fire up close. Massive respect to the firefighters they handled it incredibly well, and thankfully everyone made it out safely. The smoke was intense and even had me in a coughing fit, but it was a moment I’ll never forget. After that, I jumped on the train and headed into downtown Chicago. I walked past Trump Tower and onto a bridge above the river where a massive protest echoed through the streets a globally known movement that’s been going on for years. The energy in the city was unreal. Next, I visited the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and reflected on how America’s monuments feel newer compared to Europe because our wars are more recent. I also talked about how much I loved traveling through Vietnam and how those experiences changed my perspective. From there, I explored the Chicago Riverwalk. One of the best spots in the city for solo travelers. Restaurants, skyline views, people everywhere. It’s the kind of place where you can just walk and take it all in. I then checked out Lower Wacker Drive (yes, where scenes from The Dark Knight were filmed). It was darker and more intense than I expected, with tents and homelessness throughout the area. After a wild interaction, I decided to head back up. I tried to catch the Chicago River ferry to show how beautiful the ride is but it was unexpectedly closed. So I grabbed my sandwich that I had made, sat on a bike rack downtown, and had a real moment talking about how American cities feel compared to Europe. Especially when it comes to materialism, big vehicles, and lifestyle differences. That “sandwich talk” hit different. The night ended at the historic Green Mill Jazz Club with my friend Robby. Opened in 1907, The Green Mill is one of Chicago’s most legendary jazz venues and was once a favorite hangout during the Prohibition era. Today, it remains one of the most authentic places in the city to experience live jazz and true Chicago culture.
