It might surprise you too. I reviewed this product based on real world testing. I paired the Sony 2x teleconverter with the Sony 70-200 F2.8 and that is what my opinion is based on. I used both the A7r3 and the A73 with this combination. Based on what I observed, I favor using the A73 although the r3 wasn't bad either. Just that the auto focus was slightly better and the image came out cleaner as less megapixels revealed less flaws. (Less is more in this case.) Also, I found it to be really useful to understand my own equipment better! Understanding it's benefits and limitations would only help me create better content.
