"Days grow shorter and the nights are gettin' long, feels like we're runnin' out of time..." One week after my autumn trip to Pennsylvania, I returned trackside closer to home to squeeze in one more day of railfanning before the trees were stripped of their leaves and winter took over. Earlier in the year, I had welcomed the start of warmer weather with my first trip to Powell's Creek on the outskirts of Woodbridge (see 'By A Duck',    • Woodbridge, VA 03.08.14: By A Duck  ), and as the temperature now went the other direction, I thought it fitting to end my railfanning year by paying the spot another visit. Working one last railfanning trip into 2014 wasn't my only goal - I was specifically aiming for another shot of Amtrak's northbound Auto Train stretching its consist out over the creek. Visions of double-deck stainless steel cars reflecting the morning sun were tempered with a dose of reality when I arrived at sunrise and was greeted by heavy cloud cover and heavier wind gusts that threatened to knock over my tripod. Light and a good train weren't the only things missing from the picture - the creek was running so low that a good portion of its banks were exposed, creating a rare opportunity for angles that would have otherwise required a small boat, or at least a set of hip waders.
