In this talk, Jim McKinley (University College London) presents “From proficiency to preparedness: Rethinking student participation in EMI.” Drawing on research in EMI and adjacent fields, the lecture challenges the dominant focus on language proficiency as the primary determinant of student success, and instead proposes preparedness as a more productive lens for understanding student participation in English-medium higher education.
