Welcome to my channel! And welcome to my first video on what might be a very long series asking, what is Fascism? What is it, from where did it originate and, perhaps most importantly, can we find it hidden in our world today? In this episode we explore the first three points of Umberto Eco’s Ur-Fascism, and we begin to uncover the deep truths hidden in Eco’s rich and detailed essay. Fascism is like a slippery, shapeshifting Hydra that morphs to fit within any construct or institution, regardless of political affiliation, and topples it from within. If we don’t learn its methods, or find a way to stop it, we might slip carelessly into Fascist rule without even noticing it. We must remain vigilant. Having experienced Italian Fascism as a boy, Umberto Eco guides us into a deeper analysis and understanding of Fascism’s inner workings.
