The slow burning funk of "I Get Lifted" is perfectly complimented by the vocal talents of George McCrae who seems to have found his ecstasy in the fractured groove that just doesn't quit. A great song that just oozes sexuality for slow dancing in the dark. R&B radio embraced the tune and it peaked at #8 on that chart. It was originally the B Side of "I Can't Leave You Alone" of single TK 1007, released on October 12, 1974 at #80. From there it went to #61, #55, #50, #54, #98 and fell off the chart November 23, 1974. Two months later, the B side entered the chart at #90 on January 25, 1975 peaking at #37 spending nine weeks on the pop survey. Detroit R&B radio played the hell out of it way before it was released as a single. "I Get Lifted" was also recorded by KC & The Sunshine Band" for their eponymously titled second LP that contained the #1 hits "That's The Way (I Like It)" and "Get Down Tonight" along with the lower charting "Boogie Shoes". In 1976, Sweet Music released a pumping and in your face sexually charged version that did not chart, but is memorable for the full throated female vocals against a slightly speedier thumping disco beat. Thanks to YouTuber Casey George whose suggestion piqued my interest and to whom I dedicate this remix. Thank you!
