Estimation of Serum Albumin by Bromo Cresol Green (BCG) Method - This is the video on estimation of serum albumin by BCG with demonstration and discussion of viva questions. it contains Introduction to Albumin - 00:40 minutes Normal Ranges of Plasma Proteins - 01:32 minutes Functions of Albumin - 02:28 minutes Maintenance of Colloidal Osmotic Pressure by Albumin - 03:43 minutes Principle of BCG method - 04:02 minutes Operational Procedure - 04:49 minutes Calculation of Serum Albumin - 05:40 minutes Determination of A/G ratio - 06:25 minutes Normal ranges of Albumin and A/G ratio - 07:06 minutes Causes of Hypoalbuminemia - 07:55 minutes Causes of Hyperalbuminemia - 08:32 minutes A/G ratio - 09:17 minutes Discussion of Viva Questions - 10:23 minutes Demonstration of Estimation of Serum Albumin by BCG Method - 12:05 minutes Albumin, globulins and fibrinogens are the major proteins present in blood / plasma. Alb is major constituent (60%) of plasma protein with conc. 3.5-5.0 g/dl. It is synthesized by hepatocytes; therefore estimation of albumin is a liver function test. Half-life of albumin is about 20 days. Plasma protein = albumin + globulin + fibrinogen Serum= plasma (alb + glb) – fibrinogen Total Protein=6.5-8.5 g/dl S.Albumin =3.5-5 g/dl S.Globulin =2.5-3.5 g/dl Fibrinogen =200-400 mg/dl A/G Ratio =1.2:1 to 2.5:1 Functions of Albumin 1. Maintenance of colloidal osmotic pressure. 2. Role in transport-act as carrier for hydrophobic substance (bilirubin, non-esterified FA, drugs(sulfa, aspirin, dicoumarol), hormones(steroid, thyroxine), metals(copper, calcium & heavy metals) etc) 3. Maintenance of acid base balance (buffering action of protein-alb has 16 histidine residue which contribute to buffering action) 4.Nutritional function ( complete protein as it contain all essential AA, serve as AA sources & contribute to protein synthesis during period of starvation) Subscribe my channel from - / biochemistrybasicsbydramit For more intersting stuffs related to biochemistry visit - https://www.biochemistrybasics.com/ Follow me On Twitter - / dr_biochemistry On Instagram - / biochemisrybasics On Facebook - / amit.v.m #Albumin #albuminestimation #biochemistrypractical
