DIY-built a pickup RV, this is a record of the autumn 2024 trip, starting from Beijing. The RV drove to Pingding County, Yangquan City, in the eastern part of Shanxi Province, and traveled a section of the Taihang No. 1 Tourism Highway. The Taihang No. 1 Tourism Highway, with a total length of 1028 kilometers, is an important part of the rural roads in Shanxi Province, and it is also used to create the three major tourism sectors of the Yellow River, the Great Wall, and the Taihang Mountains. It covers Changzhi City, Jincheng City, Jinzhong City, Yangquan City, Xinzhou City, and connects more than 90 scenic spots including Lishan Scenic Area, Wangmangling, Taihang Mountain Grand Canyon, Taihang Water Town, the Eighth Route Army Cultural Park, Taihang Hundred-Mile Gallery, Niangziguan, and Wutai Mountain. In July 2023, the Taihang No. 1 Tourism Highway was opened to traffic. On October 18, 2024, the entire line of the three No. 1 tourism highways of the Yellow River, the Great Wall, and the Taihang Mountains in Shanxi Province was completed. In January 2025, the Taihang No. 1 Tourism Highway was listed as the "2024 Most Beautiful Self-Driving Boutique Road". Taihang Baxing, Xing, pronounced xíng, means the place where the mountain range is interrupted. There are many east-west transverse valleys (Xing) in the Taihang Mountains, such as Jundu Xing, Puyin Xing, Feihu Xing, Jingxing, Fukou Xing, Baixing, Taihang Xing, and Ziguan Xing. They were historically known as Taihang Baxing, which are the 8 throat passages through the Taihang Mountains for the three provinces of Jin, Ji, and Yu to communicate with each other, and they are the important military passes on the borders of the three provinces.
