Check out the new gameplay for Samson: A Tyndalston Story showcasing a closer look at the city and vehicle design from the upcoming game by Liquid Swords, running in Unreal Engine 5. This footage has been provided by the developers and edited by us. In this developer diary the team explains how they approached building the city while balancing gameplay and visual realism, while also revealing the inspirations behind the urban environment, the art direction pillars and the vehicle design. Description: The city in Samson: A Tyndalston Story is inspired by northeastern American cities from the 1990s, particularly New York and Philadelphia, using photos from that era to capture their character and atmosphere. One of the main challenges during development was balancing realistic environments with gameplay needs. To address this, the team established strict environmental metrics early in development, such as doorway heights and corridor widths, ensuring spaces work properly for camera movement, combat encounters and player navigation. The city’s art direction follows three pillars: Statement, Violence and Parasiticism, reflected through elements such as large murals, visible signs of damage and conflict, and themes related to corruption, greed and social inequality. Gameplay Features: City Design Inspired by the 1990s: The urban environment is influenced by northeastern American cities such as New York and Philadelphia. Gameplay-Friendly City Layout: Environmental measurements such as doorway height and corridor width were carefully designed to avoid gameplay issues like camera problems or characters clipping into walls. Art Direction Pillars: The city’s visual identity is built around three themes (Statement, Violence and Parasiticism) reflecting murals, environmental damage and social inequality. Explorable Locations: The developers created many small areas and corners throughout the city that players can discover while exploring. Original Vehicle Designs: Cars in the game are inspired by vehicles commonly seen in the 1990s, but they are original designs created by the team rather than real brands. Samson’s Personal Car: The protagonist’s car went through several design changes before the team created a more distinctive vehicle that stands out from the others. Vehicle Collisions: Cars can crash, tumble and roll during gameplay, creating dramatic moments during vehicle impacts. Release Date and Platforms: Coming April 8, 2026 to PC.
