Peru Protests LIVE: Peruvians Protest to Demand Security Amid Rising Crime and Extortions | N18G Hundreds protested in Lima on Friday evening (March 28) demanding safety amid a growing wave of crimes, murders and extortions. Protesters said the Congress and President Dina Boluarte were not doing enough to combat insecurity. "The criminals, extortions, every day crimes have risen so much that citizens are afraid," protester Violeta Sermeno said. Earlier in March, country's interior minister, Juan Jose Santivanez was ousted by the government for ‘inability to address the wave of citizen insecurity. Boluarte has also declared that she would like to see murderers face the death penalty, even though Peru only allows execution for those convicted of treason.
