I hope you are following me each day for the information on communications. Each day is a quick bite of information to help you communicate at a higher level in what ever relationship you are present in at that time. We started by defining communications. We looked at the dictionary and google. My belief is the Navy description of communications is the best and most clear. For proper communications you need a sender, a receiver and an acknowledgement. A message sent and a message received does not mean the correct message was received. That is why we need an acknowledgement. We spent some time on words, tone and body language. We covered the percentage of each of the three elements carried. We said that the words we say are seven to nine percent, the tone is between thirty five and thirty nine percent and that body language was over fifty percent. It is not what you say, it is how you say it. Where you are at times determines how you speak to others. A library for example versus a networking event. Even if we are very professional or casual. It was stated that people make decisions about you before you ever make contact. You can see some one across the room and determine if you even want to meet them. It takes the communications level to an even higher level when you approach them. The first contact may be that hand shake. And if it is true that people like people like them could you make a good impression by having a similar handshake. If you are mirroring that other person how much could you impact that first impression? We are just getting started. Communications is a very deep subject. Continue to follow the blog.
