A review of the Doubleskin 2 by Nova Paragliders Team Pilot Charlie In December, I bought a lightweight A-wing the Doubleskin 2, for hike n fly adventures with my dog. While waiting for the weather to warm up (I don’t fly with her when it’s frigid out) I took the DS2 for some solo adventures lightly loaded, thinking I’d just test it out. As a tandem pilot, I’m always curious to know how different gliders handle at the bottom end of the weight range. To my surprise, the size 21 handled incredibly well at 80-82kg (weight range is 75-110kg). I felt confident and had no concern about accidentally stalling the glider, like you normally would when flying lightly loaded. The brake pressure feels very similar whether lightly or heavily loaded- something I’ve only experienced on 1 or 2 other gliders- meaning you have very good authority over the wing no matter where you are on the weight range. The risers and lines are very easy to keep sorted on launch. This is due to the improved risers and use of sheathed, color-coded lines; something every mountain pilot will appreciate. Nova uses medium-length rods along the bottom surface of the glider at the point where the C lines connect to the wing. I haven’t felt the need to be careful with these when packing as nova doesn’t over-use rods in the Doubleskin 2. Whether launching in zero wind or high wind, you’ll find this wing manages itself well, as you’d expect from a lightweight A-glider. The firm brake pressure makes landing in tight spaces a no-brainer (with some training, of course) as you can precisely control the wing with the very clear feedback it gives. The flare authority is strong, giving you near-zero ground speed at the point of landing. 00:00 Intro 01:27 Specs 02:16 Comparison to DS1 03:41 Construction 04:52 Inflation and Launch 05:52 Feedback and Handling 06:52 Maneuvers 07:29 Subjective Thoughts 08:11 How Does Nova Describe It? 10:13 Summary 11:10 Who's it For?
