As we approached the town, a sign pointed out that we were entering the Vaalharts Water Scheme area, an essential piece of infrastructure that supplies water to the region. In the heart of Jan Kempdorp, we were greeted by the sight of a weathered, yet nostalgic steam engine, a relic from days gone by. Exploring the church grounds, we were delighted to find them meticulously-maintained, preserving their historical charm. An eye-opening stop was the former internment camp where German residents were once imprisoned during World War II, now transformed into a Pre-School, symbolising a hopeful future. Our stroll through the Jan Kemp Hotel was equally captivating, with its well-preserved, vintage rooms exuding a sense of charm and cleanliness. As we bid farewell to Jan Kempdorp, we were excited by the sight of the Health Train, a symbol of aid and compassion, reminding us of the significance in providing essential medical care to those in need, especially in outlying and remote areas.
