On 21 July 2013, Steamrail Victoria ran the second of their annual "Snow Trains" for the year from Newport to Traralgon via Deer Park (due to occupations). For those wondering why there's no snow in the shots, the train gets it's name from a side trip offered to the snowfields at Mt Baw Baw. The train was hauled by double headed hudson express passenger steam locomotives R761 and R707 hauling 14 vehicles comprising heritage timber or steel carriages dating from the 1920's to the 1950's and was the largest double-headed steam-hauled passenger train to Gippsland since the end of the steam era. This video follows the down special from the departure at Deer Park in the morning through Gippsland on a clear winter's day to its mid afternoon arrival at Traralgon. © 2013 James Brook
