🎬 Shooting from the Shadow Side! ✨ Creating a shadow side by placing your key light on one side of the actor's face can make your shots look more dramatic and help shape the face. This is one of my favourite techniques to upgrade the look of your videos and it can be as simple as moving your key light over by a few degrees. You can change the look of this technique by deciding how much shadow you want across the face and also how deep you want that shadow to appear. Using things like Neg Fill and Bounce can give you a little more control of this. 💡The best way to practise this filming technique is in interview set ups where shots are generally a little tighter and the subject is stationary. Once you have the hang of it here, you can start applying it to more creative scenes and on larger scales. ❗One thing to note here is: Don't do this in a way that runs opposite to any natural light source in the shot, as it can make it look a little unnatural. (As in don't place a shadow side on the same side as a window, where the face would normally be lit) If you've been lighting and filming your subjects from the same side, give this a go and let us know what you think!
