How does Diabetes Surgery Work? Stomach Reversal Procedure The first step involves laparoscopic surgery to remove a portion of the stomach. The extent of the removal depends on the person's weight and BMI hence it is a BMI-based Diabetic Surgery. This aids the ghrelin hormone reduction and speeds up the transit of the initial part of the food that is consumed by the person. When the food goes down, it stimulates the small intestine.
